Work Horses

During the session the children receive a brief overview of work horses, also known as draft horses, (Clydesdales in this case) and what they do. The children got to pet the horses if they feel inclined to do so, and see how horses were suited up for work.

Some Interesting Facts about Horses
  • A stallion is a male horse.
  • A mare is a female horse.
  • A foal is a baby horse.
  • A filly is a young female horse
  • A colt is a young male horse
  • The gestational period for a horse is 11 months
  • Within 1 -2 hours of birth a baby or foal can stand up and walk.


More Horse Facts
  • Foals cut teeth within a week of birth
  • When they are born a foals legs are almost the same length as they will be when they are fully grown at the age of 3-4 years.
  • Average life of a horse is 20-25 years
  • There are over 350 different breeds of horses and ponies
